About
Ellen Tsai grew up playing the piano and string bass in ensembles where she got to experience the wonder of music in surround sound. Although she enjoyed music and learned the theory behind it, she had no real appreciation or understanding of music theory until college. Something clicked in the theory classes of that first year, when chord progressions all of the sudden carried meaning and purpose. Resolving voices properly became so great a challenge that Ellen’s amazement for certain classical styles escalated. She eventually obtained a Minor in Music from California State University, Long Beach. She currently enjoys composing and working with musicians to bring her compositions to life. Aside from making music, Ellen experiments with fiber crafts and has designed and created mini musicians and instruments to accompany her music.
Ellen is also currently the Composer-In-Residence and string bassist with the Indian River Pops Orchestra in Florida.
